Researchers at Yale University have found significant differences in brain matter with those with bipolar disorder. The team, led by Dr. Hilary Blumburg, had a group of almost 70 volunteers, some with previous suicide attempts and others without, undergo MRI scans to analyze brain matter.
The results showed volunteers with previous suicide attempts had significant decrease of volume and activity in brain areas in charge of emotional regulation and impulses. With these findings, researchers hope to increase diagnosing and treating t
hose with bipolar disorders and reduce suicide risk.
At Sound Imaging, we are glad to see how MRI research is contributing to a better well being for everyone. Here, we do our best to expand safety and comfort of the MRI Suite by offering our patient safety focused accessories. One such device is SAMM M.D., a MRI conditional CCTV System with motion detection software; with this device, we can improve patient safety.
